The scientific method is how people understand what is real about the world. It’s what science is built on, and it helps find facts. However, each fact we find using the scientific method could one day become false.
Scientific Steps
To use the scientific method, you have to make an observation first, then follow with a hypothesis, an experiment, and a conclusion. It’s great if the experiment gives the same results every time because it has a reliable answer every time. It only takes one time for the experiment to fail. Then, the conclusion is false, and we have to try again!
Scientific Method Steps:
- Observe: You need to notice something about the world.
- Ask a Question: The best question is “Why?”, but you could have other questions.
- Research: Find out what other people have already found out about it.
- Guess: Make a guess (hypothesis) that is testable and that could explain the observation.
- Test: Do the experiment by changing one part of it and measuring another part. The more times you run the experiment, the more you can trust the result.
- Conclude: Look at all the data and make a conclusion to see if it supports the hypothesis or not.
- Share: Tell other people about what you did in your experiment. Now, your work becomes part of step 3 that other people can learn.
