Being able to understand the subtle survival, emotional, and social hints of what is happening in the moment is important to being able to make good decisions quickly. This is being aware of everything one sees, from the sticks strewn on the sidewalk to the arrangement of people around them to the construction on the skyscraper happening tens of floors above them. It’s the ability to “read the room”, or understand the undertones and the mood of a given scenario. A Learner understands that it takes a lot of practice in self and social awareness to begin to understand the context of situational awareness. It’s like an experienced captain saying that a terrible storm is coming at night while it’s a bright and cloudless day. Knowing the signs not only helps one know what to do socially, but how to make quick, logical decisions and survive.
