Rationalization is an emotional plea to maintain the integrity of one’s personal reality. It’s a denial, a desperate move to maintain the illusion of control over reality. It’s like a captain aboard a sinking ship saying, β€œWe aren’t sinking! All this water in the ship is because of last night’s storm.” A Learner understands they control only their choices, and attempting to equalize what’s really happening to what we want to happen is a fool’s errand. A person with this ability doesn’t make excuses or twist the narrative to fit what they imagine or want to be real.
