This is the ability to see things from many angles before committing a concept to a personal belief system. There is a period of contemplation, a series of questions, an assessment of intuition, and much more before a person takes something and adds it to a system of beliefs. This is like a captain checking the veracity of a cartographer’s addition to the navigational map of a newly discovered island. The captain will test the map, sail to the island, and inspect the map’s record of the island carefully before considering the map true and accurate. This often includes avoiding absolute language, such as “always”, “never”, “everyone”, “no one”, etc. where possible. It’s can sometimes be misleading to make blanket statements that cover large groups of people or situations.
