This is the ability to publicly do what matches with one’s private moral integrity. One may be personally driven to define their own moral integrity, but circumstances may otherwise drive them to dishonor their morals in favor of something else. It’s like a captain who believes slavery is morally wrong, and he commits to never doing it. However, a king offers him a lot of money to capture a person so that they may become the king’s slave. If the captain captures the person, he dishonors his moral integrity, so he is morally dishonorable. He betrayed himself. A Learner understands that matching integrity with honor is the best path toward the ultimate good, even when it is painful. It’s following the moral compass, not going against it.
