A person must not say, โI am chasing happinessโ because of the hidden implications. First, it implies that they do not already have happiness. Second, the goal of โchasingโ or โpursuingโ a goal means exactly that: one will always chase it and never catch it. A Learner understands by saying, โI am happy,โ one claims the the state of being happy. They have achieved the goal already. A person with this ability is aware of how language can have subtle effects on our emotions. Instead of thinking one is poor, a Learner sees where they are rich. They are aware of what they have, make conscious efforts to affirm it, and entertains a critical appreciation of it all.
