Intellectual humility is the best superpower to have because you become untrickable.

How does it help?

You are always looking for truth in a world where people on TikTok and other social media are screaming their opinions. Society becomes a place where whoever screams the loudest gets the most attention. Do you want to live in that place, or would you rather live in a place where we listen to the one who knows the most about a subject?

Aspects of intellectual humility:

  • The “I might be wrong” filter: Many people love to argue because they think it’s fun, but they don’t care about actually being correct. They want to show that they are right by using confusion, not what is true in the world. A person with intellectual humility is more like a detective trying to solve a mystery. Instead of thinking, “How can I prove I am right?”, they think “What am I missing?”
  • Removing the ego: When someone tells us we are wrong, it’s natural to feel that they are attacking us. This part of our mind is called the Ego, and it’s not a bad thing, but it can get us in trouble sometimes. We can get emotional about being wrong because we confuse ourselves. We think that there’s something wrong with us, that we’re not smart, or we’re not good enough somehow. This is a Defense Mechanism we can use when we feel attacked. Intellectual humility allows for people to be wrong without feeling the need to use defense mechanisms.
