This is the process through which we can find out what we should work on first. No matter what it is, we have to focus on one issue at a time. We cannot be distracted away from it until it is understood and a goal is planned.
We will identify issues specific to your life. Then, I will look at the abilities of personal power and Cognitive Distortions to determine how your issues work within the program.
We can use the Eisenhower Matrix to determine what is the most important. Then, you can choose where to start the dialectic process.
We can also use Positive Coping behaviors to work through difficult emotions.
Interview Questions
When answering these, try not to remain on the surface level. Try to be honest with yourself and provide the real answer, not excuses or cover-ups.
Locate the Exhaustion The objective here is to find where you are spending your energy fighting a losing battle.
- What is the specific ‘current’ you feel like you are constantly swimming against?
- What is the immediate consequence you are most terrified will happen?
- Where in your life are you struggling to maintain control?
Locate the Friction The goal here is to find blind spots, avoided questions, and where you might be growing negatively.
- How do you usually react when things go against your expectations?
- What are three important issues that you may be ignoring?
- What are the three most important things you would change about yourself?
Pin the Blockage The goal here is to filter the conversation into the abilities of personal power.
- Think of three patterns, situations, or recurrences that leave you feeling the most powerless, isolated, or drained.
- For each of these, what have you tried to resolve them?
- Which one of these should we start with?
Cycle
Once we work through a problem we focused on, we go to a new problem. We continue the cycle until you decide to stop.
