Unit 1: Self
- The purpose behind this unit is to plant the seed of self through the captain metaphor.
- We define the captain’s role in the metaphor and how it translates into reality as the student’s mind.
Unit 2: Emotions
Unit 3: Logic
Unit 4: The Witness
Unit 5: The Agent
This is the mandatory first lesson. It gives the student a starting point, especially in the captain’s theme metaphor. The goal is to show the student that they are very small in the scope of life, what they know is very limited, and they can only control what they choose to do. It teaches them that they should not trust everything, everyone, and sometimes, even themselves. They should try to keep an open-mind, learn what they can trust, and learn how to survive.
The Theme Perspective (what is happening in the theme while in this lesson) The captain-in-training opens his eyes and finds out that he is on his boat. The sails are furled, and there is a stillness in the air. Clouds block the sky, and a fog blocks the ocean. He can only see a few meters. Time seems to stand still. The captain can’t remember what happened, where he is, or what he was doing. How do you think he feels?
Part 1
Engage the student’s background using the Socratic Method in an open discussion.
- What was your first memory?
- Do you remember feeling like the captain?
- Can you identify the symbolism in the Theme Perspective?
Module 0
In the Captain’s Manual program, this is the first module, and there’s only one lesson in it.
