Jose P. Ortiz The Captain’s Manual program shows the student their own power already hidden within them.

Program Summary

The program demonstrates to a student of any age how to manage complex problems in life with grace and wisdom, from stressful pressures to processing emotions. The Captain’s Manual helps a student make the voyage from a passive passenger of life to an active decision-maker who takes life by the wheel.

Instead of teaching by lectures, memorization, and exams, the program utilizes practical methods and short-but-powerful lesson activities that leave lasting memories of good morals, life lessons, and wisdom. With the tools in the program, the student can have a better chance to successfully manage life’s challenges and claim the hidden rewards.

These rewards are a prize hidden inside of everyone. We call this the Holographic Prize (read more about it in the Program Overview). Few students learn that something is missing in their life, and fewer start looking for it in the world. While this is a necessary step in finding the prize, it won’t be found in the world. This program teaches the student how to look inside themselves, where the patient and diligent will find the prize waiting for them.

Info

A student of this program becomes the captain of their own ship. They choose where to sail instead of being blown aimlessly by the wind.

The course uses several techniques to help the student understand the material, but there are two main delivery methods: a captain theme and a role-playing game.

What the Captain’s Manual Doesn’t Do The program make the student a better person by itself. The student must be the one to engage with the lessons.

Also, program isn’t framed to be judgmental. The student is not a problem to be fixed. They are not wrong or bad, nor right or good. We all want to progress, so the program shares one way, out of the many ways on Earth, that a person could use to improve.

Lesson Delivery Methods

Using the imagination is fun, useful, and touching. This is a different take on education that doesn’t focus on memorization, test scores, or academic performance. Students already have school for that. The Captain’s Manual builds logic and critical thinking, fosters self-identity, and contextualizes life lessons. Although the techniques aren’t conventional, the value in learning these lessons is self evident and lifelong.

Questions & Answers

Why are these delivery methods helpful? Most students live predictable lives: they wake up, study/work, then sleep. Everyday life presents its own challenges, but it’s predictable, repetitive, and safe. It can be mundane and uninspiring. This limits the student’s ability to learn because it restricts their chances to experience life in new ways.

However, imagination can take the student anywhere, put them in dynamic situations, and teach real-life, practical life lessons that the student may never have had the chance to learn in their real life. We want to use the imagination to make hard concepts easy to understand and use.

Why is the symbolism of the captain theme important? We are using the symbols to paint an analogy of the big picture of not only life, but what might come after. The Captain’s Manual helps students shift their frame of reference and open their minds. Even though most people don’t know much about sailing, it’s the perfect way to humble oneself in the face of new information. Students of the program learn not to run from emotions. They learn their power and face emotions with confidence.

Q: Do I really need to find the Holographic Prize? A: You are the judge. Many people will say, “I don’t need this,” and others will say, “I already have this”. How confident are they with their conclusions? Sometimes, they don’t take a moment to learn what it is they might be missing! A few people may be able to reflect honestly and maybe they will realize that they do need it. Only you can know the answer to this question, but please take time to think on it. Whatever happens in your life, the confident realization that everything will be OK is the least one should feel.
